Pooches, Plants & People

What a beautiful summer day for a stroll amidst the Palm & Crepe Myrtle trees.  In the USA Crepe Myrtle trees do best in California and Texas where the climate is mild and not overly humid which helps them avoid fungus disease. Crepe Myrtle is of the genus Lagerstroemia named after Magnus von Lagerstrom who supplied the Swedish botanist Carolus Linnaeus with plants he collected.  Linnaeus became known as the father of modern taxonomy and the father of modern ecology.  He laid the foundation of bionomial nomenclature.
Potted plants need watering but with results like this it is worth it.

This  Fuschia is the official city flower of Costa Mesa which has an ideal climate for it's growth.  It's not doing too bad here in Huntington Beach which shares a border with Costa Mesa.  Interestingly there's a particular fuschia named the "Costa Mesa Fuschia".

Succulents do extremely well in Southern California.  They thrive where other plants can't take the heat. They are also more drought tolerant than many other plants.  They propagate easily from cuttings...just break off a stem and place it in water til roots form and then plant.

Abby  is a Shih tzu which translates to "lion".  This breed descended from crossing a Lhasa Apso or Tibetan Mountain dog with a Pekingese in the 17th century.  Prized by royalty the Chinese refused to sell, trade or give away these dogs until 1930 when a pair made it to England.
This man's little dog ran up to visit Rabbit & he was nice enough to let me take his picture.
